Always Loved, Never Forgotten.
For those among you who do not know me, it shouldn’t be too difficult to work out, as my father made me in his own image, cheers for that da!!
Maybe he was right after all when he said “We shall not improveâ€
In his younger days, he was a part-time welder, or at least I think he was, cause I cant remember him ever finishing a full week.
Always on the look out for a ‘county-down’ for a wee pint. Entrance fee he called it. He often came home late, and would get me out of bed to play a game of Connect 4. He loved that game. Wasn’t any good though. In the end up, he owed me just over £262,000. I never did see it. If he owes any of you money, all I can say is, you’ll never learn will ye.
Dad was gutted when the bowling green closed, as he was never out of the place, even in close season. He made many friends there.
It wasn’t so long after that, he had the first of many strokes, which took their toll on his day to day life.
We were left devastated by the news he also had cancer, which had spread, meaning we could do nothing to help him.
Even through the torrid time he had in his last few days, this guy still took the time to slag off my ma’s tea making skills, ask Josie and Maureen if they had any spare cash, and have meaningful conversations with invisible people at the bottom of his bed.
It takes a lot of courage to smile through enduring pain, and I’m proud to say, my dad had it in bucket loads. Even in his last hours he still brightened up the darkest moments, with his cheeky grin.
On behalf of my family, I’d like to take the opportunity to thank you all, for your kind messages, and words of support.
Happy memories make times like these, much easier to get through, and we will carry them with us, all our days, but as he said, shortly before leaving us “the game’s a bogey…………….the baw’s up the dykeâ€
